An incredibly engaging read, this book starts out with a metaphor for religion in the form of an unlikely virus that effects the nervous systems of ants. It's sole purpose is to drive them to the tops of grass stalks so they can be eaten by sheep. The virus can only reproduce inside the stomach of sheep. Dennett attributes a lot of religious activity to the work of self-evolving memes that find human hosts to replicate, regardless of whether it benefits the human or not...
